Celebrities were getting their hair primed perfectly this weekend for the red carpet at the 2013 BET awards. Such an event is very prestigious in the life of celebrities and can do a lot for their careers. All wonderful hair styles could be seen from big, tousled curls to wonderfully bright pops of color and massive buns.

K. Michelle won BET’s best hair poll although there were a few women who gave her a run for her money. The stars were shining brightly as they took to the red carpet. Prestigious celebrities like Janelle Monáe who is famous for American R&B and soul music took to the red carpet. Other celebrities included Ciara, an American songwriter, dancer, actress and fashion model. Sanaa Lathan, Gabrielle Union, Jamie Foxx and Chris Brown were all proud to be part of the event.

Drake was the first to take the lead, entering the awards with 12 nods, but didn’t leave Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre on Sunday evening to pick up any of his trophies. However, the Toronto rapper took to Twitter in his absence announcing that he was completing his album and having family time.

Drizzly was looking like he was the man to beat, but Kendrick Lamar eventually tied, being the second most nominated to Chainz. The best male R&B artist was Miguel, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and Usher. The best group was Mary Mary, Mindless Behavior, Slaughterhouse and The Throne.

Some people wear a dress, but the dress wears them. Angela Simmons is a prime example, as she wore a strange, icy white dress to host the BET Awards pre-show on Sunday. The elaborate frock had no sleeves and far too much going on with bizarre ‘breast shields’, matching peplum and a feathery mini skirt.

Angela Simmons, 25 is known for being in reality shows and downplayed the rest of her appearance, wearing minimal make-up, a shiny diamond ring and bracelet and nude colored peep-toe platforms.
