Carrie Bradshaw would be thrilled to see the forthcoming Sarah Jessica Parker SJP Shoe Collection. The Sex in the City star has come up with a wide range of footwear: twenty-five different shoes including sandals, bootees, heels, ballet flats and t-strap pumps, such as the eponymous ‘Carrie’. The actress admired her character’s refusal to play by the rules, and her shoe collection echoes this.
One of the first shoes to be seen was ‘Diana’ – a single-sole stiletto. In patent leather, with a thin strap and gold buckle, it retails at $395. This is a nod towards the ‘urban shoe myth’ pursued by Carrie in Sex in the City, featuring Manolo Blahnik’s ‘Campari’ Mary Janes. Indeed, the star has been working with George Malkemus, CEO at Manolo Blahnik, to produce this collection – a sure case of life imitating art.
SJP wants to return to the shoes that excited her when she was girl: back then she always wore a grosgrain ribbon in her hair, and as a personal gesture has added a small grosgrain ribbon stitched to the back of the heel of each pair.
The Italian factory that produces the collection combines great craftsmanship with reasonable pricing, from $195 – $495. There will also be a range of handbags and a versatile trench coat, ‘Manhattan’. Although stylish and desirable, the shoes will also be comfortable and practical, as 48-year-old Parker states: ‘ There’s nothing sexy about not being able to walk.’
The footwear, in a range of gorgeous shades, can be seen in a sneak preview video by the Coveteur on YouTube, showing the star relishing her new collection in the company of Gayle King, friend and associate of Oprah Winfrey, and O Magazine’s Adam Glassman. O magazine features a full spread preview of the Sarah Jessica Parker SJP Shoe Collection, which will be sold exclusively at US department store Nordstrom from February 28th, and to UK customers online.
