Monkees star Davy Jones has died at the age of 66. According to sources who found Davy Jones dead at his Florida hone, the singer appears to have died in his sleep from a massive heart attack. Jones shot to fame in the 1960’s as lead singer of the popular band The Monkees whose members also included Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz and Michael Nesmith.
Jones was born in England but moved to the USA in the early 1960’s to pursue a career in music and acting. In 1966 he became a member of actor-musician group The Monkees who were marketed as America’s answer to the Beatles. Several successful television series and top ten hits followed, but by the early seventies the group had split to work on different projects. In later years Jones returned to his career in acting and released a solo album in 2001.
