One Piece is the best-selling manga series of all time, and there are many factors that contribute to that, like animation, consistency, character development, and the power system, something which we use to judge the abilities of a character in an anime or manga.
However, when we talk about the power system in place for One Piece, it gets a little complicated.
One Piece Power System Explained
The power system of the series is essentially divided into two major categories, called Devil Fruits and Haki. While devil fruits are a type of fruit that is required to be eaten in order to gain magical abilities, just like one where Luffy is able to stretch his body to his advantage, Haki on the other hand is a spiritual energy that if awakened, grants the user physical abilities and senses.
The different types of Haki are:
1. Observation Haki (Kenbunshoku Haki)
This Haki allows its user to feel the presence of others as well as their emotions. The advanced mastery of this Haki can also allow the user to look into the future.
2. Armament Haki (Busoshoku Haki)
Armament Haki allows its user to coat their body in a layer of invisible armor, ultimately increasing their durability and strength. Advanced mastery of this haki can allow the user to actually project their Haki outwards, creating shockwaves in the process. This Haki can also be used to coat weapons, making them more powerful.
3. Conqueror Haki (Haoshoku Haki)
Conqueror Haki is the rarest form of Haki, and it allows its users to project their willpower to overwhelm the willpower of others around them. The advanced mastery of this Haki allows its users to dominate the will of others, knocking those out instantly with a weaker will.
Top 10 Haki Users
There have been characters in the series who have been able to utilize the powers of all the three Haki mentioned above, hence making them way stronger than the others. A ranked list of these characters is as follows.
10. Roronoa Zoro
Zoro, who has mastery in swordsmanship, is also a Haki expert who can use all three forms of Haki, that includes the rare Haoshoku Haki. Zoro noticed his ability to use the conqueror Haki himself for the first time in his fight against King, which ultimately helped Zoro defeat King as he was able to enhance his sword fighting skills.
9. Big Mom
Being one of the Former Four Emperors, it was expected of her to be highly skilled in every type of Haki, which she was. She was able to use Busoshoku Haki to harden her body, making her nearly invincible, and also used her conqueror’s Haki during Sanji’s wedding.
8. Silvers Rayleigh
Although now retired, Rayleigh was known as the “Dark King“, he was able to use all three forms of Haki and even taught our protagonist Luffy the basics of them.
He was able to proficiently use Conqueror’s Haki, to the extent that he was able to use it on any one individual if he wanted to.
Rayleigh is also known to be very skilled in the other two forms of Haki and is one of the reasons Luffy was able to become one of the strongest pirates like himself.
7. Kaido
Kaido, also known as the “Strongest creature in the world” is one of the former four emperors of the sea. He showed off his possession of all three forms of Haki in his battle against Luffy. He applied the Armament Haki as well as the Conqueror Haki to his weapon and also used Observation Haki to see all of Luffy’s attacks beforehand.
6. Kozuki Oden
Oden was the leader of the strongest samurai known as the Nine Red Scabbards. His strength was recognized by both Whitebeard and Roger and possessed all three types of Haki. He was a powerful user of Armament Haki, which he combined with his swordsmanship skills to become one of the strongest characters in One Piece.
5. Monkey D. Luffy
The main lead in One Piece, Straw Hat Luffy is the captain of the pirate group Straw Hat Pirates and is also one of the four emperors of the sea.
Luffy was taught by Silver Rayleigh about the three Haki, which he later mastered to his advantage. He is also able to combine his Haki powers with devil fruit powers, which eventually helped him defeat Kaido.
4. Akagami Shanks
Shanks is one of the most powerful Haki users in One Piece. He is also the master of the Conqueror Haki, and it was confirmed by the creator of One Piece himself that his Conqueror Haki is twice as powerful as Luffy.
Shanks is also one of the four emperors of the sea and is the captain of Red Hair Pirates.
3. Whitebeard
Whitebeard was the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and was also known as the “Strongest Man in the World” in One Piece. The former member of the four emperors of the seas had the ability to use all three forms of Haki and was seen using Observation Haki even while he was asleep.
2. Monkey D. Garp
Also regarded as the “Hero Of The Marines“, Garp is the grandfather of our protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. Garp is known to use the Armament Haki infused with his bare fists which he used to fight the pirate king to death countless times which proved his powers rivaled to those of the pirate king. His mastery of Haki has even led him to have the title of “Garp The Fist“.
1. Gol D. Roger
Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King, managed to take control of the seas with the help of his superior knowledge of all three Haki. He was the captain of Roger Pirates, which consisted of many people on this list like Rayleigh, Shanks, and others.
Even after his death, Roger is considered one of the most powerful pirates of all time. He was able to infuse his sword with Conqueror Haki as well as Armament Haki hence allowing him to become the Pirate King.
It is important to note that One Piece is an ongoing series, and as confirmed by the Oda, it is supposed to go on for another five years before it ends, which opens up the possibility of this ranking changing as new information comes out.
