acm awards 2012

The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was the scene of yet another Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday. The 47th Edition had superb music for entertainment as well as a few stage antics. Toby Keith, alongside Carrot Top and Wayne Newton serenaded a beverage container and there was a wedding ceremony as Frank Tucci married Christina Davidson to the track, “Marry Me”.

The main winner of the night for the second year running was Taylor Swift who scooped Entertainer of the Year. Swift took a moment to mention her missing date, Kevin McGuire who is hospitalized with cancer. Miranda Lambert scored two wins with the Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year awards.

The fans had their say by voting for recent Idol participant, Scotty McCreery as New Artist of the Year. This confirms his status a country music fan favorite having won a similar award at the American County Awards last December.

The night was not without disappointments with Kenny Chesney going home empty-handed despite coming into the evening with nine nominations. But he surely enjoyed the show put up by the co-hosts, Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton who scooped the Male Vocalist of the Year.

Other ACM Awards Winners were:

Song of the Year: Crazy Girl, Eli Young Band
Vocal Group of the Year: Lady Antebellum
Vocal Event of the Year: Don’t You Wanna Stay, Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson
Single Event of the Year: Don’t You Wanna Stay, Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson
