Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima will front the Jason Wu Fall 2014 Campaign, prior to his show in September. She is the latest to be recruited to Wu’s ‘Supermodel Supper Club,’ an idea the designer had whilst sitting in the dentist’s chair! Previous campaigns have shown other models in various chic New York restaurants: Karen Elson at Indochine, Stephanie Seymour at La Grenouille and Christy Turlington at Mr. Chow. This time Adriana is seen posing at Four Seasons, the famous restaurant in uptown New York, in a glamorous emerald-green cutout dress.
Wu sees the Victoria’s Secret Angel and returning Maybelline model as a powerful lady, so he has chosen to film her where many power lunches take place. The venue has a personal resonance for Wu, who recalls a power lunch of his own that took place there seven years ago, when he was just starting out. He felt intimidated then, but says he has been going to the restaurant ever since.
Wu describes Lima’s ‘feline-esque prowess’ as being appropriate for his cothes, and makes no apology for choosing models from a ‘different era’ if they inspire him. At the shoot Wu larked around on set, trying on some of stylist Shay Ashual’s wigs and kidding that he might pose as the next supper club model.
The high fashion tailoring and somewhat androgynous look favored by Wu is in stark contrast to Lima’s sexy appearances on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk. Being an ‘Angel’ is often a passport to a prestigious runway stint. We have seen Gisele Bundchen on the catwarlk for Alexander Wang, while Karolina Kurkova has modeled both for Zac Posen and Cushie et Ochs. It is a bit of a ‘Catch 22’ situation, as VS is only interested in models with extensive global experience, but once they join the Angels they will automatically get offers of work from all around the world.
