The Spanish luxury leather goods firm, Loewe, have chosen Hollywood Hispanic celebrities Penelope Cruz and her sister Monica to show off their new Cruz bag, which the pair helped to create. The sisters appear to work well together, as they have previously helped design for Mango and Agent Provocateur.
Penelope’s association with the company is already established. She posed with their Amazona leather tote bag in the spring of this year and is contracted to stay with them for another three years. The authentic Spanish feel of Loewe’s creations was what inspired her to work for them.
The Cruz bag is similar in style to the Amazona, and offered in three sizes. The sisters’ aim was to produce a stylish practical bag for busy women which would also be very versatile. Made from beautiful soft grained leather, it sports a strap that can be worn in various ways: across the body like a satchel, or as a hand/shoulder bag. It has useful outside pockets as well as roomy inner compartments. There are also matching coin purses and zip wallets.
Penelope Cruz and her sister Monica star in the Loewe Cruz Bag Campaign. The stylish ads for the new bag were shot on the roof of the Madrid Casino, and their sultry Latin looks certainly enhance the appeal of the bags in the fashion shots.
The Cruz bags come in a range of colors, plain black and several two-tone shades: ocean/navy blue, brown/mink and purple/pink. There are also some delightfully dinky polka-dot versions: shades of blue with white spots, or shades of brown with pink spots.
Celebrity namesake bags are nothing new. Hermès produced the famous Kelly bag, named after Princess Grace of Monaco, in the 1950s, and in 1984 their Birkin bag was born, named after actress Jane Birkin. Where the Cruz bag differs from these is that Penelope and Monica actually had a hand in its design.
