Beauty and the Sexy Beast – DK’s Spring Collection

Once again the choice is Adriana Lima for Donna Karan Spring/Summer 2014 Campaign. The Brazilian model, from top New York agency The Society, was flown to Haiti along with Spanish male model Andres Segura for the shoot, which was directed by photographer Russell James. Both have worked for Donna Karan before: Adriana was in the Spring 2012 campaign, while Andres featured in the sexy Fall/Winter video of 2013.

The glamorous pair are seen posing in a variety of rustic and urban locations. Adriana is cast as the irresistibly fascinating beauty and Andres as a lowly peasant: following her with a donkey in tow, cutting out some leather hide, and either stalking her or loitering with intent in the village street.

The collection features leather garments and tribal boho style, in natural colors. Leather predominates, either in the form of a tan jacket with wide lapels and huge eyelets, or as a teal-blue skirt in suede strips loosely laced with black cord. The same blue tone is also seen in a revealing loose shift, while tan reappears together with dark brown in another loose-fitting scarf-inspired garment, with a geometric pattern. Flowing and free, casual and comfortable is the overall hallmark, with nods in the direction of the sarong and other ethnic styles.

Leather is also seen in the accessories. A wide tan armband is matched with a wooden cutout on a leather thong round the neck, with a chunky leather belt and heavy buckle completing the somewhat macho look. The other offerings in the Donna Karan Spring/Summer 2014 collection all tone with the palette of terracotta, black, white, brown and shades of denim blue.

The overall theme is back to nature – think upmarket hippy traveler on safari – and the two dishy supermodels are the perfect choice to complement the ‘back to basics’ look with a touch of sensual sophistication.
