Some elements of Dior’s Spring 2013 Cherie Bow are still present in the Dior Spring 2014 Makeup Collection, but this time the theme is drawn from French history. Called the ‘Trianon’ range, after the fantasy small chateau that belonged to Marie-Antoinette at Versailles, the style of the maquillage harks back to the eighteenth century but with a modern twist.
The face of Russian model and actress Daria Strokous is the blank canvas on which Dior make-up artists have created their signature ‘new look.’ Marie-Antoinette was considered extravagant, so gold is the keynote here. It is used to obliterate the brows with glitter and add shimmer around the eyes, to achieve a very striking golden glow. The effect is almost Egyptian at times.
The hair is scraped back to fully reveal the face. The skin has a matte look, to achieve the natural-looking porcelain complexion one sees in portraits of the period, and the colors are pastel. The main focus is on the eyes, with only a soft blush on the cheeks (Coral Bagatelle or Pink Reverie) and pink, rather than red, lips. There are several enticing palettes to choose from, including Pink Pompadou and Pastel Fantasy. Some of the compacts have retained the charming bow motif from earlier this year. There are also four new nail polish shades.
The golden rule of make-up is to either accentuate the eyes or the lips, but not both. However, if you want a discreet touch of glitter and glow on the lips there is Dior Addict lip glow and gloss. Before using any of the dazzling array of colors available this spring, the complexion can be fine-tuned with two new products: Pore Minimizer Skin Refining Matte Primer or Glow Maximizer Light Boosting Primer.
The collection launches in Japan and the US and online in January, but other countries will have to wait until February.
