Robin McLaurin Williams, well known by many as Robin Williams, is dead. The legendary actor and master of comedy’s body was found in his Marin County California home by his personal assistant on the morning of 11th August. His death comes only three weeks after he celebrated his 63rd birthday, and two weeks after his beloved daughter’s 25th birthday. He is said to have committed suicide.
The police found the body of this one-time Academy Award winner slightly suspended and in a sitted position, and with a belt around his neck. In addition, his left wrist had several severe cuts which are believed to be self inflicted, as a pocket knife was also found close by. The police however declined to comment as to whether Mr. Williams had been on drugs, and whether he may have left a note. They instead noted that he had been seeking treatment for depression. In July, Williams had checked himself into rehab after a long battle with drugs and alcohol.
Susan Schneider, who is William’s third wife, was the last to see the comedian alive. That was on the night of August 10; 13 hours before his body was found. A full forensic examination and toxicology results will be made available within the next two to six weeks.
He is survived by his three children Zachary, Zelda and Cody Williams. Zelda, his 25 year old daughter was the first to release a heartfelt tribute to her father which she shared via her Twitter account. Others who have taken time to send a tribute to the deceased and condolences to the family include President Obama, actors Ben Affleck, Kevin Spacey, Ben Stiller, Danny DeVito, Lindsay Lohan and Neil Patrick Harris, musicians Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga, and TV show host Ellen DeGeneres among others.
The world will forever remember Robin Williams as one of the most talented and celebrated comedians in the silver screen. Aside from doing comedy, he was also an acclaimed actor, screenwriter and film producer.
