Sorting Yourself Out For Summer

Any season gives us the chance to accessorize, but none more so than the summer. Winter sees us wrapping up our bodies and trying to keep warm; it’s not so much a chance to show off the bits of our bodies that we like and adorning ourselves in jewellery, but more so the opportunity to keep our temperature at a constant. Some of us get away with pulling off style during this time, and some of us don’t. But when summer rears its head, anyone and everyone is game.

Gold is big this summer, as it has been for the past couple of years. It’s generally going the way of the bigger the better, but if you’re not brave enough to bling up, layering your jewellery can work equally as well. That isn’t to say that other coloured jewellery isn’t on trend; silver, rose gold and even plastic jewellery is all on a par. It’s a fair chance for anything, and it’s the most inclusive range of accessories that we have seen for years. We are living in a time where fashion is changing so quickly that it can be hard to pinpoint something as not being stylish; there are so many subcultures popping up nowadays that absolutely anything goes. You can visit sites like which will give you a fantastic range of earrings that reflect the gold rush trend that is happening at the moment.

Hair Accessories

It’s not so much that you need the big hair accessories that were more commonly seen in the late 90s/early 2000s (who can forget the butterfly hair clips?), but more so how you are accessorising the hair you have. Learning how to braid can be a good step towards getting your hair ready and on trend for the summer. The focus now is more so on the technical side of hair styling, which can look extremely tricky, but once you know how to do it and give yourself a bit of time to practise, you can get things like dutch braids, mermaid braids and french plaits down to a tee. You may like to watch a video at and follow the instructions to get you on your way. It’s a brilliant and extremely stylish way to get your hair out of your face and off your neck, giving you a cooler way to walk around … in both senses of the world.

You don’t want to have anything that drags you down particularly. Now is the time to clear out your winter bag and take out absolutely everything that you haven’t used or needed. The lipglosses that haven’t seen the light of day, the gum that hasn’t been chewed – just anything that hasn’t been of use to you whatsoever. A good idea for something to use as a summer bag is something just bigger than a clutch that has a long handle. Going larger than this will only end up making you feel hotter when you are lugging your belongings around.

Protecting yourself when the sun is beating down on you should be at the forefront of your mind. However, fear not – there are forms of protection from the sun which you can incorporate into your daily fashion. There are certain lipsticks and makeup accessories that have SPF protection already in them. Sunglasses have different strengths of protection; you’ll need to make sure that you’re going for a pair that have been verified as safe for your eyes and are able to cut out any UVA and UVB rays from reaching your eyes. Another way to stop the sun from affecting your skin is to wear both a hat and sunscreen, regardless of how cloudy it is outside. The presence of clouds can be deceiving; it doesn’t mean that the sun’s rays aren’t shining through. There is a huge collection of hats that are tipped to be big this summer, and slapping on the sunblock with an SPF of at least 30 is the sure way to keep yourself happy and healthy during the coming months.
