Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, set to release in October this year, revealed its story trailer after Insomniac Games, the studio responsible for Marvel Spider-man Game Series, revealed it at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday. The trailer, as well as the executives and directors of the game at the event, gave us a hint at what we can expect from the game storywise.
Insomniac Games have seen major success in the past with Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in the past, and look forwards to another major launch this year on October 20 with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
What Is New In The Upcoming
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
The game’s Senior Narrative Director, Jon Paquette, revealed that both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are facing personal struggles as they live another life being Spider-Man. While Peter is burdened financially as he can’t let go of Aunt May’s house but is not able to mortgage on it either, Miles on the other hand struggles dealing with his father’s death at the hands of Martin Li, aka Mister Negative.
While the ongoing struggle continues, the game discloses a new villain, Kraven, who with his hunters has started attacking New York, and as Spider-Man and MJ investigate this, they come across Venom’s symbiote threat to the city and their loved ones.
The game also does not fail to showcase the challenges faced by Peter in maintaining his relationship with MJ and his best friend Harry after he gets affected by the symbiote. Harry has also been given more screen time this time around when compared to past games, giving a new character to the fans to adore about.
The game also offers new combat abilities for gamers, like Pete’s Spider-Arms and symbiote Powers, and Miles’ two forms of bioelectric Venom, along with new gadgets like the Web Grabber. The game also features an expanded world with new areas like Brooklyn, Queens, and Coney Island.
The game also brings back the iconic character of Venom, a character known for his dark and rage-focused theme. The game’s Senior Art Director, Jacinda Chew, also explained the design challenges faced along the way in order to balance Venom’s appearance in the game. “It was challenging to find the right balance between liquid and solid in Venom’s materials as going too watery makes him look weak and going too solid can quickly turn him into a tentacle monster. Venom must look both powerful and semi liquid at the same time.” she said.
Pre-Order Benefits For Gamers
Insomniac has also revealed a collector’s edition package which is now available for pre-order and will include a Display Case, a digital copy of the game, some in-game pre-order bonuses as well as a 19-inch Collector’s edition statue showcasing Venom fighting with Peter and Miles.
Last but not least, Sony and Marvel have collaborated once again and made a Limited Edition Spider-Man bundle in order to keep the legacy going. The bundle will include a PlayStation 5 and a Dualsense Controller, styled accordingly with Spider-Man and Venom themes.
Pre-orders for the game and the limited edition items will begin on July 28th, and the game will be released on October 20th, exclusively on PS5 and players purchasing the bundle will receive bonus incentives in the game exclusive to them.
