The choice of Kate Moss for Alexander McQueen Spring 2014 Campaign has resulted in a spooky mix of Bondage meets Cleopatra. The forty-year-old still manages to look both sexy and spooky: especially in the campaign movie. This has Kate in a pitch-dark street looking at TV screens in a shop window. A shady photographer stalker throws a mannequin doll resembling Kate into a dustbin as she enters a house. Under her black leather jacket is a black leather bra and skirt. A series of flashes and photo montages show her besieged by paparazzi.
The sombre mood is reflected in the fashion shots, with black leather offset by Sarah Burton’s broad gold bangles and clutches, such as a large tote bag with geometric design in black on red leather. Most shots also include the eerie presence of a Kate Moss Mini-Me wearing the same outfits and vaguely reminiscent of a voodoo doll.
Kate’s hair is cropped into a bright yellow urchin cut, which looks as though it has been sculpted, then gilded. Even her skin looks gilded – very Egyptian. She is seen wearing a black leather bra topped with a gold harness, like luxurious bondage gear, which is also worn with a black leather pleated miniskirt. Another image shows a leather bra with black and red stripes and a kind of apron extending down the front, worn with stripey blue-green skirt. The same bra has a matching skirt, with a black fringe hanging over her bare midriff.
There is also a biker-style leather jacket with zips and a wide Pharaonic looking collar in black and red stripes, right over the chin. A broad black and red striped border at the waist, and frilly black leather miniskirt complete the look. Shoes are high heeled grey and black platforms, with three dark red straps across the foot and another round the ankle.
