Sharon Osbourne has taken a bold step after declaring that she recently had a double mastectonomy. The popular British TV personality says that this is due to the realization that she has been carrying a gene responsible for the development of breast cancer. So far breast cancer has progressed to be the most prominent as well as feared disease in women.
In an exclusive interview On Monday with Hello Magazine, Osbourne stated that she did not want to spend the rest of her life with that cloud caused by the breast cancer gene hanging over her. The popular 60 -year- old ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge had also undergone surgery more than a decade ago due to colon cancer.
After declaring her descision, the Sharon Osbourne mastectomy news has spread fast globally. The news is hoped to encourage more women to take every possible measure to avoid the effects of breast cancer.
Double Mastectomy is a procedure whereby all breasts are cut off as a preventive mechanism of spreading cancer to incurable heights.
This process has been used as a treatment to breast cancer or in some cases it has been administered to people who are considered to have a high risk of contracting the disease.
Sharon Osbourne is the wife to formerrock star Ozzy Osbourne and they have two children named Jack and Kelly. Recently, she became a grandparent when her son and his wife gave birth to a baby girl named Pearl. The surgical operation took almost 13 hours in order to remove both her breasts.
Talking about the reasons she had to undergo the surgery, Sharon Osbourne said that without the practice then odds would definitely not be on her side. This is particularly because cancer is a terminal illness and if she were to let the gene develop, the effect might be beyond medical control when it is discovered. She added that she never wanted to endure what she underwent during the time she had colon cancer again.
Although the Sharon Osbourne mastectomy news was a shock to many, She herself does not seem to be troubled by it at all. When asked on how she came to that resolution, Osbourne replied by saying that it was not such a big descision.”it was in fact a no brainer.” She added that the surgical operation was good for her since she wanted to live a long time enough and be Pearl’s grandmother.
Her affair with rock star Ozzy started back in the 1970s when she was Osbournes manager. This was just after he had his former band, Black Sabbath, which played heavy metal. They dated for a while before tying the knot. Her surgical operation comes exactly some months after her son Jack Osbourne’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis at just 26 years of age.
Sharon gained her television fame back in 2002 during the MTV reality hit series “The Osbournes” that was based on following her families lives which include; her husband Ozzy, her son Jack, her daughter Kelly and herself. The show lasted from 2002 to 2005. In 2004, She went ahead to host the popular British show, The X Factor in which her role lasted up to 2007. Currently Sharon co-hosts a chat show, The Talk, which discusses various issues about the United States of America.
