The headline ‘Lady Gaga goes topless for Versace’ is all over the web, but frankly it’s much ado about nothing. The pop star may not be wearing anything on her upper half, but with her long blonde hair and plenty of Versace’s trademark metal bling hiding her breasts all you get is a bit of cleavage. Shudder to think of all that cold, cold metal against her naked flesh, though!
Shown lounging on a purple sofa in textured black pants with a huge Medusa buckle, the pic is one of several shots from the Versace Spring/Summer 2014 campaign. Another image shows her sprawled wide-eyed on the same sofa clutching a big black bag, with trademark Medusa between two buckles. A previous image, released last year, shows her clad in mauve swaddling clothes, criss-crossed over her torso and with a metal-clipped side-seam, once again sporting the ubiquitous logo, both at her waist and swinging from her neck. The photographers were Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
It’s all thanks to the close relationship between Lady Gaga and Donatella, the late Gianni Versace’s sister, who took over the fashion brand when Gianni was murdered in 1997. Previously, Donatella has used other high-profile friends as models, such as Madonna, Christine Aguilera, Demi Moore and Beyoncé. None of them have gone as far as Lady Gaga, however, in mimicking Donatella’s own style, so that she comes to look like her twin sister. Last year, one of the tracks on the album Artpop was also called Donatella.
Lady G has used social media to advertise the campaign. She recently tweeted: ‘Happy New Years from HAUS OF GAGA and @Versace!’ Donatella returned the compliment by saying she is honored to have her friend take part in the new campaign. She pays tribute to Lady Gaga’s beauty and spirit, saying she is like one of the family, and possesses the Versace DNA.
