Black and midnight blue are the overall color notes with plenty of glitter and lace for that feminine party look, but also some new twists on old favorites. A long-sleeved angora top has lacy see-through panels at the shoulders, and a black see-through top has sparkly white spots. A bluish-grey top has eye-catching patches of glitter and looks great worn over a black rollneck with ultra-slim jeans. A slinky black top with three-quarter sleeves is slashed down the front in an elongated vee, only to end in a row of demure buttons, sending out subtle mixed messages. Another top has long chiffon sleeves and a demure neckline, but reveals the midriff. Tops are worn with sleek black pants or a swinging gathered mini-skirt, in a soft black fabric or even studded leather.

The really bold pairing of separates is a sporty t-shirt with number nine in kingfisher blue, and blue and white stripes at the hem and sleeves, teamed with a miniskirt and minimal sandals with high heels. More of the teasing ambiguity at which this Spanish brand excels.

Dresses come in mini and maxi length, and are pretty and girly. A curvy black minidress has a lace yoke and sleeves, once again combining old-fashioned black lace with an ultra-modern silhouette. Another skimpy mini has a deep vee neck and shoulder straps, then swirls out into a galaxy of gauzy double-layered glitter. The equally glitzy full-length gown has a deep split with a flirty underskirt. There are also a couple of jackets to team with jeans: sharp shiny black leather either with zips, or scattered with seasonal snowflake motifs.

For figure-flattering yet easy-to-wear chic that will really make an impact on the party scene, Zara have definitely produced the goods this holiday season.
