Coming up with a list of all time best movies is not easy. This is because the taste of audiences varies with region and season. Additionally, every year new movies are released that would require a new “Top 10” every single year! This list compiles several rankings done by movie critics and magazines in different countries about the Top 10 most awesome movies of all time. Although they are listed from one to ten, other than perhaps “The Godfather”, the rest are in random order.
1. The Godfather
This movie has the best cast of all time, the greatest script and also the best gangsters (if there is anything like that). Almost any film critic would proclaim this to be the best motion picture ever made.
2. Titanic
The Titanic probably set the trend for big budget films. The marketing that went into promoting it paid back. It is probably the greatest romantic movie and also ranks amongst the most profitable Hollywood creations.
3. The Lord of the Rings
The movie version of the books garnered far much more support than could have been imagined. The sequels lost steam after some time but after “The Godfather”, it is the best trilogy on offer.
4. Forrest Gump
This all-time war favorite has gripped the world for years and generated several spin-offs. At its peak, few ever thought that better films would ever be made.
5. Gladiator
In the early part of the 21st century, medieval films had captured the film industry. Gladiator was the epitome of them. With punchy lines, an exemplary storyline and superb acting, “Maximus Decimus Meridius” couldn’t give us enough.
6. The Matrix
This movie changed the scene for sci-fi pictures. It combined technology, action, comedy and romance all into one.
7. The Dark Knight
Comic book enactments rarely achieve what this movie did. “the Transformers” despite its market performance has never convinced major critics and lacked the staying power that “The Dark Knight” achieved.
8. Shawshank Redemption
One of the greatest TV series is said to have been developed from this 90’s blockbuster. This is arguably Morgan Freeman’s best work – and that is quite a feat. The movie is captivating from the first minute with the audience being in a trance at the cast’s performance.
9. Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest
Johnny Depp outdid himself for this film. The sound was excellent, the videography unmatchable. The market performance was also unexpected for a movie with such a theme.
10. The Lion King
Arguably the greatest animation ever made. Surely everyone shed a tear when Mufasa died. Just for that it just about made it into this list.
